Karen Strachan – Secretary

I am Karen Strachan, secretary of the Munro College Parents Teachers Association (PTA). I am a committed and dynamic educator. As a Senior Teacher, I coordinate the School Wide Positive Behavioural Intervention and Support (SWPBIS) programme and lead the Learning Intervention Team within my institution.

I believe that the essence of knowledge lies within its application. For this reason, I seek to be actively involved in positive change among our youth population, guiding my actions by the principle, “Service to others is true service to God”.

From as early as my Primary school years, I was elected as Student Council Representative. It was evident from then, that my ”stance” could never be misinterpreted for my “seat”. Though my “body language” may not readily project my athleticism, I was also a “star” athlete during my primary and high school years. I represented my primary school at several Regional Track Meets and represented my High School at the National Boys and Girls Championships. During the latter stage, my netball skills seemed to have matured adjacently with my leadership skills and I was appointed captain of the Netball Team on numerous occasions.

My early involvement in extracurricular activities has undoubtedly been the spring board for my achievements today. I was awarded “Outstanding Teacher” on four occasions at my institution and was also awarded “Outstanding Parent” on three occasions at other institutions. In addition, I was awarded “Most Outstanding Teacher of Speech” by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC). I also served as President at the District Level for the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA). Additionally, I serve my country in the capacity of Justice of the Peace (J. P.). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B. Ed.) from the University of the West Indies and a Master’s Degree in Education (M. Ed.) from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota…
